Requests for specimen information
An online catalogue where you can see photographs and 3D digital models of many of our British type fossils is available here. Our remaining research collections are not currently available to search online but if you would like information about what we have please contact the Museum and the collections team can provide a list of relevant material. Please note not all of our collections are presently catalogued. We aim to respond within 20 working days for responses to enquiries.
We understand that every enquiry will be different but if possible please try and provide us with the following:
- Identification - With any synonyms or re-identifications you may be aware of.
- Specimen number – If known. Sometimes listed in publication with the prefix SM or CAMSM.
- Bibliographic reference – Author, date, title and name of publication if the specimen has been figured or mentioned.
- Geological dating – Chronostratigraphic, lithostratigraphic or biostratigraphic dating.
- Locality.
- Collector or Collection.
