Facilities and useful information
Identification Service
Have you found a rock, fossil or mineral you would like us to identify? Bring your find to the Museum and we will do our best to identify it for you, free of charge. More information.
Toilets and baby-changing
There is one toilet available for visitors. An accessible toilet is available within the Department of Earth Sciences, Museum staff can provide access to this. Public toilets are available only five minutes walk away in the Lion Yard shopping centre where there is also a Changing Spaces toilet (Cambridge Shopmobility). https://www.changing-places.org/
There are baby changing facilities in both the Museum toilet and the Department of Earth Sciences accessible toilet.
Eating and drinking
The Sedgwick Museum does not have a cafe on site (and eating and drinking is not permitted in the Museum) but there are several open spaces nearby for picnics in good weather and our team will be happy to tell you about other local places to eat, including The Whale Cafe at the nearby Museum of Zoology which is open to the public.
Lift access
For visitors with restricted mobility there is a lift located within the Department of Earth Sciences which can be used to access the Museum. If possible, visitors should let the Museum know in advance if they wish to use the lift, by phoning or emailing the Museum before their visit. A member of staff will then assist you when you arrive.
There is a ramp leading to the door located beneath Museum staircase. The lift is not suitable for large buggies or large wheelchairs (the lift floor measures 105cm wide by 80cm deep, but the door is only 69cm wide). If your wheelchair or scooter will not fit in the lift, there is a folding wheelchair available that you can borrow within the Museum. You must be able self-transfer or be accompanied by someone who can assist you.
Coats and bags
There are coat-hooks available in the entrance of the Museum. Please note that these are used at visitors' own risk and the Museum cannot accept responsibility for lost or stolen items. The Museum is unable to store personal items.
